Nicole – Living a Life She Loves!
Passion inspires creativity, are three words that describes Nicole Bromham very well. Coming from North Devon in the UK, she has already at an early age, traveling around the world surfing the most beautiful spots, modelling for different brands and making creative art from her passion for the ocean.
FIRSTLY, NICOLE, PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF...
Hello I'm Nicole! 21 years old currently living in beautiful North Devon next to the seaside.
WHERE´S YOUR LOCAL BEACH AND WHAT´S IT LIKE THERE?
My local beach is called Croyde, I am very lucky to live about a 10 minute drive from the fluffy sands of Croyde beach, surrounded by green rolling hills and a pretty village full of thatched roof cottages it is extremely picturesque, everyone makes an effort to keep the beach clean and litter free. The beach has a little stream that runs from the hills through the middle of the beaches huge sand dunes, across the sand and to the sea.
HOW DOES SURFING INSPIRE YOU AND WHERE´S YOUR FAVOURITE WAVE?
Nothing compares to the feeling of gliding across water on your surfboard! I love the shapes of surfing from the curl of a wave to the smooth edges of your board. My all time favourite wave is called Periscopes, Periscopes is a perfect right hand reef break on the island of Sumbawa in Indonesia.
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?
A lot of things make me happy, from a cheese and cucumber sandwich to my 17 year old cat Nelly, i love being up early enough to catch a sunrise, getting lost in the cinema to a good film, being around my family, laughing hysterically, everyone loves laughing uncontrollably! Travelling to new places makes me happy, a night out with some outrageous dancing, my gorgeous enthusiastic boyfriend, combing the beach for fresh art materials, feeling the sun on my face, discovering a new banger on the radio, the list could go on!!
HOW DO YOU STAY SO FIT ON YOUR TRAVELS?
Staying fit on my travels is easy if surfing every day, anyone who has given it a go will know how tiring it is! maybe a few extra squats and crunches here and there when needed, otherwise a surf trip is active enough to keep one fit! If on a non active surf trip I try to eat as clean as possible and go for a jog or at least a short walk everyday to get things moving and the heart rate up.
WHAT´S YOUR ULTIMATE HOLIDAY DESTINATION?
My ultimate holiday destination at the moment is Iceland, I'm dying to see the northern lights but also to hopefully get lucky and see my favourite animal on the planet, an Orca, ever since I was a little girl watching "Free Willy" on repeat I have dreamed of seeing orcas in the wild!
WHAT DO YOU NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT?
I never leave home without a hairband, got to keep the mane under control.
WHAT ARE YOUR MAIN PASSIONS IN LIFE?
Making sure I do everything I can to live a life I love, I am passionate about my artwork, making new creations to share with people, food, I'm also passionate about food
I JUST LOVE YOUR "FINS IN FRAMES" ART. PLEASE TELL US ABOUT IT.
Thank you! My Fins in frames is exactly that, the shape of a surfboard fin made up 3 dimensionally using various materials from the beach, e.g shells, driftwood, sand, pebbles, sea glass, I also like finding old pottery from charity shops to break up and use, things like buttons coins and gem stones sometimes make an appearance, some people see the fin as another form of fin! shark, dolphin, which is nice, I like people to have their own take on it too and use their imagination, when the fin is finished I enclose it in a glass box frame ready to be hung up.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO MAKE YOUR ART?
I absolutely love sourcing my own materials, going for a lovely walk on the beach and finding treasure at the same time, envisioning what the next piece will look like, seeing people happy with the end product and excited about where they are going to put it or who they are going to give it to as a gift, is very satisfying and inspiring.
WHAT´S NEXT FOR YOU?
I am now going to diversify my fins and extend in to a new range of shapes and designs keeping the same concept, 3D art all seaside related but with new twists. I hope to continue on my adventures around the globe alongside making my art.
ANYTHING YOU´D LIKE TO SAY TO GIRLS WHO WANT TO FOLLOW THEIR DREAM?
Just go for it, if you are passionate about something and enjoy doing it don't hesitate to try and make it your everyday, make a plan, stay organised, then take baby steps, even if it doesn't quite work out the way you'd hoped you'll feel much better for trying then not trying at all, put yourself out there, say yes more and jump at opportunities
